AI Policy Statement

Tremendicon does not permit the sale, exhibition, or promotion of any artwork, products, or merchandise created in whole or in part through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) generation tools within its vendor halls or any other designated areas. 

Purpose

  • To uphold and celebrate the originality and creativity of human artists.
  • To safeguard the intellectual property and livelihoods of artists participating in our convention.
  • To ensure a convention experience that values and respects human artistry.
  • To minimize potential legal and ethical concerns related to AI-generated content, including copyright infringement and unauthorized use of source material. 

Definitions

  • AI-Generated Art: Any artwork, including images, illustrations, designs, or products, created using AI programs or tools that automatically generate content based on prompts, existing datasets, or machine learning algorithms, with minimal human creative input beyond initial prompts.
  • Vendor: Any individual, group, or entity participating in the convention as an artist, exhibitor, or seller. 

Procedures

  1. Vendor Agreement and Application
  • All vendors must agree to abide by this policy as part of their application and vendor agreement process.
  • The vendor agreement will include specific clauses prohibiting the sale or display of AI-generated art and outlining potential consequences for non-compliance. 
  1. Monitoring and Enforcement
  • Convention staff will monitor vendor booths and exhibits to ensure compliance with this policy.
  • If a vendor is found to be selling or displaying AI-generated art, they will receive a warning and be asked to remove the items from their booth immediately.
  • Failure to comply with this request will result in the vendor being asked to leave the convention without a refund.
  • Repeat offenses may result in a ban from future convention participation. 
  1. Reporting violations
  • Attendees and other vendors are encouraged to report suspected violations of this policy to convention staff.
  • All reports will be investigated promptly and discreetly. 

Vendor responsibilities

  • Vendors are solely responsible for ensuring that all artwork, products, and merchandise sold or displayed at their booth comply with this policy.
  • Vendors must be prepared to demonstrate that their artwork is not AI-generated if requested by convention staff.
  • Vendors are responsible for remaining informed about and complying with applicable copyright laws, the US Copyright Office’s guidance on works containing AI-generated material
