Ribbon Trading at Tremendicon

Ribbon trading is a long standing convention tradition that adds a little extra fun to your badge. If you have ever seen badges covered in colorful strips of ribbon hanging underneath them, you have already seen ribbon trading in action.
At Tremendicon, ribbons are small decorative strips that attach to the bottom of your badge. Each ribbon usually has a phrase, joke, fandom reference, or design printed on it. Some are handed out by vendors, guests, or staff, while others are created by attendees who want to join the fun.
Collecting ribbons becomes a game throughout the weekend. You might earn one by attending a panel, winning a contest, completing a challenge, meeting someone new, or simply asking politely. Many people enjoy designing their own ribbons to trade or give away, and part of the excitement is discovering the creative ideas people come up with.

How to Get Ribbons

Ribbons may be given out for many different reasons depending on who made them. You might receive one for:

-Participating in a panel or activity
-Completing a challenge or playing a game
-Showing off a great cosplay
-Trading with another attendee
-Simply asking nicely

Ribbon Trading Etiquette

Ribbon trading works best when everyone keeps a few simple guidelines in mind.

-Always ask before taking a ribbon. Many people are happy to share, but some ribbons are limited or meant to be earned in a specific way.
-Respect the rules set by the person giving out the ribbon. If they ask you to complete a challenge, answer a question, or attend an event first, that is part of the fun.
-Do not pressure someone if they say no. Some collectors trade selectively or may have already run out.
-Be kind and welcoming. Ribbon trading is meant to be a friendly way to meet other fans and creators.
-If you make your own ribbons, keep them appropriate for a public, all ages event.
-Most importantly, have fun with it.

Whether you collect a few ribbons or build a badge that reaches the floor, ribbon trading is a great way to connect with the Tremendicon community.
