At Tremendicon, creativity isn’t just about what you make. It’s about what you give.
This year, we’re proud to host Small Arts of Kindness, a collaborative community art project rooted in a simple but powerful idea: small acts can have a big impact.
This project comes from educator Mr. Mostyn, who introduced a similar initiative to his sixth grade students. He has never believed that you need to be the best artists to be creative and that group work gives all kids from every skill level, social economic or cultural background the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways to a greater work than that which they could make on their own. So using nothing more than small squares of paper, simple shapes, and color, his students created nearly 800 tiny pieces of art. On the back of each one, they wrote a message. Short phrases meant to uplift someone else.
“You are awesome.”
“I see you.”
“You’ve got this.”
These pieces were displayed together in a grid, forming a larger work made up of individual contributions. Then, students across the school were invited to take one. Especially those who needed a little encouragement.
The result was more than an art project. It became a moment of connection. A reminder that kindness, even in its smallest form, can change someone’s day.
That same spirit is coming to Tremendicon.
How It Works
Throughout the weekend, attendees will have the opportunity to create their own small piece of art. No experience is needed. No pressure to be perfect. This is about participation, not perfection.
We’ll provide all the materials and a simple format that anyone can follow. On the back of your piece, you’ll write a message of encouragement, kindness, or support for whoever ends up receiving it.
Each piece will be added to a growing display, building a collective work that represents the creativity and compassion of the Tremendicon community.
Take a Piece Home
On Sunday, the project comes full circle.
Attendees will be invited to choose a piece from the display to take home. Maybe you’ll pick one at random. Maybe a message will stand out to you. Either way, you’ll leave with something made by another member of the community. Something meant just for you.
Why It Matters
In a world that can feel overwhelming, rushed, or even hostile at times, moments of kindness matter. This project is a chance to slow down, create something meaningful, and offer a small but genuine connection to someone you may never meet.
You don’t need to be an artist to make an impact. You just need to show up.
